Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the Sickle Cell Trait (SCT) extend beyond hematologic impact. This disease is responsible for a lot of hidden systemic conditions that influence oral tissue, dental development, and secondary infections that could result in a vaso-occlusive crises. This CE webinar will explore the connections between SCD/SCT and dental pathology. We will also cover chronic hypoxia, inflammation, vascular compromise, and their effects on the dentition. Participates will learn oral indicators of systemic disease, dental management strategies, and evidence based approaches using VOCO dental products.
During this CE webinar, we will: • Recognize systemic diseases and complications associated with SCD/SCT. Most health history questionnaires do ask specifically about SCD/SCT. A lot of related systemic diseases are a result of both SCD/SCT. • Identify and recognize oral manifestations of SCD/SCT. This includes manifestations such as delayed eruptions, pupal necrosis, enamel hypoplasia, and recognizing the distinct trabecular pattern of the bone in radiographs. • Learn how sickled erythrocytes and vascular occlusion contribute to oral ischemia. • Discuss the best practices for managing the dental and medical complexities of the SCD/SCT patient.
